Woodrow Wilson, president of the Initial Slates, will bo the honored guest of Salt Lake and Utah today. .Many men and women have traveled hundreds of miles lo catch a glimpse of the executive who has occupied a largo share of tho world's attention during tho past four years. So wo may safely conclude there will be a record-breaking record-breaking crowd on the s! routs when he arrives this afternoon. Tho voice of the politician has been hushed for the time being and there will bo no drawbacks draw-backs to Utah's welcome. This is as 'it should be. Presidents do not find their way into the intermountain country coun-try wry often and when they do come wo all like to put our best foot forward and show them our hearts are in tho right place. Air. Wilson has boon touring tour-ing the country in behalf of the league of nations covenant, now before the United States senate for ratification or rejection. A great majority of tho peoplt) living in this part of the country coun-try are in favor of the league. There is some opposition, however, and the . resident has undertaken to interpret and explain tho disputed points. In this ho has been measurably successful, especially on the Pacific coast. We are not at all certain that the votes of the senators will be influenced by public sentiment. Judging from press accounts ac-counts California is practically solid for t fio league. Senator Johnson, however, will undoubtedly vote against it. - The state of Washington is also for the league, but Senator Poindexter cannot be. moved. The same situation exists in Idaho wheivo Borah obtained his senatorial sen-atorial credentials. But theso matters will not be considered con-sidered by the people of Utah today while the president and Airs. Wilson are their guests. So let the bands play and tlio crowds shout such ' a welcome as will make the head of the nation glad that ho came this. way. Let us forget our political prejudices and join in the welcomo as American citizens who helped win tho world war.
