Show LABOR TROUBLE AT COBALT HAS ENDED i . The Cobalt miners' strike has ended and the Nipissing Mines company and other ! properties in that camp may now resume operations after a five weeks' shut-down, : says the Boston News Bureau. I The IS'ipissing company, the largest factor fac-tor in that district, gave no recognition to the union nor did it make other concessions. conces-sions. The ending of the tie-up. . as a : matter of fact, was effected through steps i taken by the strikers. I The trouble had its inception in endeavors endeav-ors of the Western Federation of Miners to unionize the camp. Not only did the companies refuse to deal with represen-i represen-i tatives of the Western Federation, but 1 many of the men themselves were opposed to a foreign labor organization entering Canada. Nipissing had a strong treasury and a considerable amount of unsold silver on hand with which to give combat to the striking miners. The shut-down of the Cobalt enmp came at a time when there has been a big demand for the metal, particularly par-ticularly from India. |
