Show jvORLD-WIDE SUFFRAGE. 'ow tbat woman suffrage has been rudognized in the new league of nations covenant, congress should submit the Sujrin B. Anthbny amendment without any further delay. Suffrage is' coming all. over the world, and the United States should not lag behind when all the other great nations are moving forward. for-ward. The National Suffrage association associa-tion is to become a league. of women voters early next year, and 'it is fair to presume that there will bo great political: politi-cal: activity among the women during thu 19120 campaign. This may mean the disappearance from public life of many men who have been opposing suffrage for years, including the senators who prevented the adoption of the resolution during tho last session of congress. This would bo t he natural thing to do, although it may be that tho women will be j forgiving and allow some of their chief tormentors to. remain in office. Irk Carrie Chapman Catt, president of tlitj National Suffrage association, and Dr. Anna Howard Shaw, honorary president presi-dent of the groat organization, are jubilant jubi-lant over the action taken by the delegates dele-gates to the Versailles conference. All the; other leaders are correspondingly happy, as they see the great day of universal uni-versal suffrage approaching. It has be itu a long struggle, and some, of the women passed their entire lives in pleading for this reform.. They would not be human if they did Dot rejoice upon sight of the promised land. . Most people will be inclined to rejoice with, them, for the country has long since been converted to suffrage. Whatever the1 militants may say or do is no longer a matter of interest. |
