Show Nearly 100 Per Cent of Shell Shock Cases Cured, Surgeon Says NEW YOKK, Marcli 6. Ninety-nine Ninety-nine per cent of all shell shock cases in tho American army in France completely recovered, according accord-ing to Colonel Thomas Salmon of New York, chief medical officer in charge of such soldiers, who returned today on the Leviathan. "There was less insanity in the American army than in any of the other allied armies," said Colonel Salmon. "Only 1 per cent of the shell shock cases had to he returned to the United States for treatment. Of the remaining 99 per cent, 65 per cent recovered in field hospitals, 30 per cent in evacuation hospitals and 4 per cent in special hospitals for the treatment of nervous diseases." Colonel Salmon attributed the recoveries re-coveries in the American army to the high standard of physical examination ex-amination required for all soldiers going abroad. |
