Show HIGH-GRADE EITIS"! PROMISEMOB 511 Officials of Fat Stock Ex- I "hibit Say Outlook Better Than Ever. It was a busy day yesterday at the Salt Lake Union stockyards, making g final preparations for the third annual : ifttermountain fat stock show, w-hich will 4 be formally opened next Thursday morn- Ing. Quite a large number of exhibits ;; have arrived and owners are on hand in considerable number, together with at- ) tendants. "dolling up" prize animals that they may be in the best of condition for i the' judging which will take place on the opening day. : i In an interview yesterday, E. C. Par- r sons. manager of the Intermountain ? Stock Show association, said that he was S? much encouraged at the great interest g manifested in the show and the quality P of the exhibits, all of them being of eN- j ceptionally high grade, reflecting the foot h that the intermountain sections are be- f coming more and more noted for the pro- & duction of livestock of the best class, p which can be placed in competition with k that raised in any other section of the K country with a certainty, of carrying off many of the first prizes. Among the several hundred visitors a' L the stockyards yesterday was T.ee Caley t of Alta Vista, Cal., who Is on the . ground with a carload of registered 'T-Tr.,-fr.i-rl hnll: ATr. Galev sava that IT I the early entries are a fair sample of what are coming, then Kansas has nothing noth-ing on the intermountain country for prime finished animals. Wires and letters received by the management man-agement indicate an exceptionally large attendance from Utah and Idaho points, as well as a good representation of coast and eastern buyers for the auction sale of fat stock and prize winners next Friday. Fri-day. Interest among the stockmen at the ground yesterday was centered about Bonnie Lad the 28th, one of the celebrated cele-brated Hereford bulls from the Chesney Stock farm near Evanston, Wyo. This animal is of relationship as half-brother to Ardmore, the champion Hereford bull of America, which brought a fabulous price at one of the recent stock shows. Bonnie Lad the 2Sth measures up to the expectations of the most critical judges, according to Mr. Parsons, and in build and general qualifications he will appeal to every experienced follower of the Hereford. The exposition will demonstrn te the fa.ct that wonderful progress has been made in the stock-raising industry in the Intermountain country since the first annual an-nual fat stock show was held in the spring of 1917. For that show the entries en-tries were limited, and, while the general gen-eral quality of the stock was excellent, it was not by anv means up to the standard of today. The showing of hogs at the first exhibition was small, while the hog section this year is one of the most important im-portant of the exposition, proving that the educational campaign which has been conducted for the past two years hy the 1 ntermountain Stock Show association has had an effect in educating (he farmers farm-ers that there is great profit in raising hoes of the better breed. The expansion of the hog-raising Industry In-dustry is also ejnphasized byt the fart that the Cudahy Packing company, which established its plant here a few weeks previous to the first fat stock show, has nearly doubled its killing anr packing facilities, which could onlv have been made possible by production. In turn. Salt Lake has become establish"!! as one of the best markets for can ie, sheep and hogs, and the industry in general has received an impetus which it is believed, be-lieved, in a few years, will place Salt I.-ak in a position where it will be one of i lie principal livestock markets a nd packing centers of the west.. |
