Show MAYS HEAVES BRICKBAT. Representative James H. Says of Utah, having made certain remarks regarding re-garding former Speaker Champ Clark and been denounced as a malicious liar for his pains, takes up the cudgels and goes after the Missourian in vigorous maunor. Mr. Mays demands that Mr. Clark declare himself either for or against the league of nations and reiterates reiter-ates his ehargo that the ex-speaker said in the presence of several congressmen that ''the league has no more chance of being ratified thau you have of becoming be-coming pope of Rome." Leaving 'the question of veracity to be settled later, the people of the entire country would like a definite answer 'from Mr. Clark, for he has long been one of the Democratic Demo-cratic leaders and is making an effort to retain his standing in the minority party. Is he for or is ho against it? That is what Representative Mays is trying to find out. It is true that just at the present moment the country abounds wih straddlebugs, but no real leader should hem and haw over so grave a matter. In times past the Missourian Mis-sourian has been very outspoken and everybody liked him. Now that he has contracted the dodging habit he has become be-come more or less of an object of contempt con-tempt and the houn' dawg is being constantly con-stantly kicked aroun'. |
