Show Opera Opening Attended by Smart Folk SOCIETY was well represented at the opening of the grand opera season at the Salt Lake theater last night with the first performance of the San Carlo Opera company. Beautifully gowned women occupied stalls and boxes and were also in evidence in the orchestra and dress circle. Among the prominent society people in attendance as first-nighters were Mr. and Mrs. rt. C. Gcmmell and a box party; Mr. and Mrs. E. h. Burton, Dr. and Mrs. W. D. Donohor, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fowler. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar S. Hill, Miss Ida Ilanaucr and a party of three; Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Keith. Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Over-field, Over-field, Mr. and Mrs. Walter T. Pyper, Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rooklldge with a party of four; Herbert Her-bert Salinger with a party of six; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lamb with a party of six; Dr. Van Cott, Dr. and Mrs. J. T. White, L. L. Bagley with a party of five. Attractive and novel features were introduced in-troduced into the annual entertainment of the Ladles' Auxiliary U. C. T. at the home of Mrs. W". M. Donohue, 361 East First South street, yesterday . afternoon. Luncheon was followed by cards. A surprise for the guests had been arranged ar-ranged by tho entertainment committee in the way of a "drummer's sample case." which was a large suitcase filled with gifts for each one present. They were dainty bits of handwork and each was tied with yellow ribbon. Numbers were placed on each parcel and the guests drew for them. A yellow and blue color scheme representing repre-senting tile auxiliary colors was carried out in tho decorations and all of the details de-tails of the entertainment. Luncheon was served at small tables, each having a basket bas-ket of acacia, with a blue tullo bow on the handlo as a centerpiece. A large table in the center of the dining room had a cluny cover over yellow, with a basket of yellow daffodils and white snapdragons in tho center. A blue tulle bow was on the handle of the basket. The place cards were hand-painted in yellow flowers and individual nut cups were in yellow. The committee in charge included Mrs. Donohue, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. J. Hansen and Mrs. W. L. Wetherbee. T., will entertain at 'a card party this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the lodge rooms, West Temple and Second South street. Spirit of Liberty chapter. Daughters of the American Revolution, was entertained yesterday afternoon by Mrs. F. E. Marcy at her homo on P street. In a brief business busi-ness session, at which Mrs. W. C. Ash-will Ash-will presided, it was decided that the chapter adopt a hospital ward at Fort Douglas. . A Kensington and music were the features fea-tures of entertainment during the afternoon after-noon and tea followed. A basket of daffodils daf-fodils was a springlike centerpiece for the tea tabic. Mrs. Taylor Woolley gave pinna selec-tiona selec-tiona and vocal numbers were given by Miss Jane Sands. Miss Icah Mehesv entertained at a box party at the Wilkes theater yesterday afternoon, followed by lea at Franklin's in honor of Miss Gladys Sims, a spring ; bride. Pink roses and sweet peas were used as a centerpiece for the table. The placo cards were kewpies. 5 The party included, besides the guest ' of honor, Miss Grace Sims, Miss Irma ' Sims, Mrs. Reed Harvey, Mrs. Carl Poll, Miss Edna Kay and Miss Brieta. McDon- . aid. Rudy and Mlll'ord M. Hutton, which took place yesterday afternoon. after-noon. The ceremony was performed by Brigham S. Young. The bride is a sister of George M. Lufkin of Logan. Mrs. Jed H. Kimball of Fortland, Ore., and Samuel H. Lufkin of Los Angeles, all of whom formerly lived in Salt Lake. The couple are at home at 150 Garland court, this city. Miss Louise Wilson, who have been making their home in Berkeley for the past two years, have returned to Salt Lake and are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kean Miller., Jerome L.
