Show BAKER PLAKS WAR ON SOCIAL VICES Utah Officials Asked to Cooperate Co-operate in Campaign for Health. A marshaling of many forces against the liquor and social evils has been set on foot by federal authorities. Secretary Newton D. Baker, of the war department, yesterday wired to all gov.ernors of states on the matter. Grosvenor B. Clarkson, secretary of the council of national defense, de-fense, wired to all state councils. The United States public health service called the attention of the state health commissioners commis-sioners to the campaign. State councils of defense and state health officers are asked to communicate with their respective governors on the campaign plans. The governor is requested re-quested to pass the message from Secretary Secre-tary Baker along to the mayor of cities and other officials. The local health officers' of-ficers' attention Is to be directed to the fight bv the state health commissioners. The state council of defense is to urge the county and the community councils of defense to back the local public safety and health officials in their activities against these menaces to the American soldier. "Signing of the armistice," says Secretary Secre-tary Baker's wire, which was transmitted transmit-ted to the mayors of the cities of Utah yesterday, "in no way lessens the responsibility re-sponsibility of the civil community for the protection of soldiers from prostitution prostitu-tion andthe sale of liquor. AH states and cities ought never to leave the control con-trol which has been established or stop so vital a work. The government proposes pro-poses to leave no measures unused in continued repression of prostitution and sale of liquor from now until such time as demobilization is fully accomplished.
