Show THOHS F. KEMS mm mm Former Member of Field Artillery Graduated From Berkeley School. Thomas F. Kearns, son of former Senator Sena-tor Thomas Kearns, was graduated' Saturday Sat-urday from the aviation ground school at Berkeley, CaL, according to word received re-ceived here yesterday. He was second in a class of more than fifty cadet aviators. avi-ators. Young Kearns, it is said, had shown unusual aptitude for the courses of study' and was among the leaders of his class from the time is was organized organ-ized twelve weeks ago. He was put in command of a squadron a few weeks after he had been in attendance. As a reward for achieving high merit young Kearns was given a red ribbon. Additional credit was given him because he was one of the youngest in the class. Prior to entering the aviation school young Kearns was a member of the 145th field artillery (First Utah), sergeant in K battery and was in training at Camp Kearny, Cal., when he made application to enter the aviation branch of the service. ser-vice. Young Kearns now has the title of cadet aviator, but will not be given, his commission until after he has qualified as a flyer. He will be sent to one of the Texas fields to be given his actual flying instructions. |
