Show JAPANESE STEAMER ON LEDGE IN PACIFIC , I , A PACIFIC PORT, June 9. Striking on : a ledge in a dense fog off the North Pacific Pa-cific coast this morning, the Japanese freighter Aikuko Maru, said to be the ; i first Japanese vessel taken over by the United States shipping board, is in a precarious condition and may slip off to deep water at high tide, according to a message received tonight by the local ; merchants exchange. The vessel, which recently arrived here with cargo for the orient, was turned over to the shipping board, and left here yesterday for a Canadian Pacific port to load coal for the United States. The message saaid that the steamer Rainier was standing by the vessel, but did not state whether the crew had been taken off. The place where the Aikoku Maru struck is a particularly hazardous stretch of water, and mariners here think she may have been forced on the ledge by the heavy tide. The Aikoku Maru is owned by the Kyusha Kisen Kaisha, is of 2466 net tons and carried a crew of thirty. |
