Show GOMOR REVIEWS TRIIIO BATTALIOni Drafted Men at University on Drill Field at Fort Douglas. Governor Bamberger reviewed the battalion bat-talion of drafted men now receiving vocational vo-cational training at the1 University of Utah, on the cantonment drill field at Fort Douglas at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. after-noon. The training battalion turned out in force, with its band, under Captain Will A. Dietrick, officer in command, and made a most creditable showing in the evolutions evolu-tions of the battalion parade and review. It was the first and only official review in which the battalion has participated, and, in view of the fact that .the men have been under training only uout one month, and have spent most of their time in technical training, instead of military tactics, their appearance and performance was considered exceptionally good. A temporary reviewing stand was erected erect-ed at the south edge of the drill field, and a large party of state and city officials of-ficials and prominent citizens were invited in-vited to occupy the stand and review the battalion. Among those who occupied places in the reviewing stand were Governor Gov-ernor Bamberger, Major H. M. H, Lund of the governor's staff, Captain F. V. lltz Gerald, secretary to the governor; Colonel 1C. S. Wright, instructor in military mili-tary tactics at the University of Utah; Harden Bennion, secretary of state; J. A. "Widtsoe, president of the University of Utah; F. C. Richmond, L. H. Farns-worth, Farns-worth, E. O. Howard, V, n. Wallace, J. David Larson, Mayor W. Mont Ferry, Commissioners C. Clarence Neslen, Herman Her-man H. Green, A. H. Crabbe and Karl A. Scheid. The battalion formed in company front on the field. i and while the band played a livoly march the troops were inspected by Governor Bamberger and Captain Dietrick, accompanied bv Maior Lund and Captain Fiz Gerald. The battalion then passed in review before the reviewing stand at regulation march time, and then again passed before the stand at double-quick double-quick time. The soldiers marched off the field on their way back to the university uni-versity singing a lively march song. Governor Bamberger took occasion to express to Captain Dietrick high praise of the showing made by the soldiers and he complimented President Widtsoe of the university upon the class of training work that -is being done at that institution. |
