Show Ml DRAFTED H . TO BEGlfy Till Detachment Expected in August to Enter Vocational Voca-tional Work. A new detachment or battalion of drafted draft-ed men for special vocational training will arrive at the University of Utah and begin work August 15, according to information received yesterday at the school from the war department. The present detachment of drafted men, who are being given special schooling' in technical and mechanical Unes -for special duties in France with the American expeditionary ex-peditionary forces, wilt complete their course of trainim; at the local school on August 10, It was announced yesterday, and it is expected that most of the battalion bat-talion will be sent at once overseas for active duty. Those who are not sent across the ocean will be sent to various organizations in this country to take up the work for which they have been trained at the state school. Just as soon as the men now here are out of the way another detachment of about 400 men will move into the university uni-versity and a new school of instruction will be gotten under way. It was said yesterday by President Widtsoe of the university that arrangements arrange-ments have been made to keep these classes of soldiers going continuously from now until next June at least, and possibly possi-bly even beyond that time. As each battalion bat-talion receives its two months of intensive inten-sive instruction in technical work it wrill move out either to Prance or to other parts of this country for active duty, and new men will be sent in to take up the , training. This means, it is stated, that the Utah school is to be a permanent training school for soldiers who are to be fitted for special duties in technical lines. |
