Show i MILTON C. HENDER-1 SON, who met death j when heavily loaded motor I truck runs away. YOUNG SALT LAKER CflUSHEDTD DEATH Milton C. Henderson Dies Under Machine Near Canyon. While attempting to fix the foot brake of a heavy automobile truck he was driving driv-ing for the Utah Firebrick company, Milton Claude Henderson, IS years old, received injuries early yesterday morning which resulted in his death several hours later. His body was discovered lying in the roadway under the machine about a mile north of Big Cottonwood canyon by workmen going to work at 6 o'clock yesterday yes-terday morning. According to Deputy Sheriff Al Prltch-ard, Prltch-ard, who was sent out to investigate the accident, it appears that young Henderson, Hender-son, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Henderson of 739 Poplar arcade, left the county silica beds with a heavy load of silica shortly after 11 o'clock Tuesday night. Stopping near the foot of a small hill, Henderson apparently ap-parently crawled beneath the machine with his legs under the front of a rear wheel while he tinkered with the brake rods. While in this position the truck, standing on a down grade, started forward, for-ward, the wheel passing over the lower part of his body, nearly severing one leg at the hip and crushing the foot from the other leg. While the young man must have suffered suf-fered the most intense agonv from his injuries, in-juries, he apparently did not lose consciousness, con-sciousness, as a blood stained trail in the road showed that he had attempted to reach help by crawling up the hill in the direction from which he had come. , After dragging himself a hundred feet up the hill and then finding his strength almost gone, Henderson crawled hack to the truck. Appearances indicate that death overtook him while he was attempting to open a stop cock under the radiator of the machine in an effort to secure some water for the purpose of alleviating the fevered thirst resulting from his mangled condition. The body was taken to the S. M. Taylor undertaking establishment at Murray. Funeral services will be held in the Fifth ward chapel Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Burial will be in South Jordan cemetery. |
