TWO DISAPPEARANCES CREDITED TO SCHMIDT Suspected There, Were Other Victims of Murderer and Suicide in Detroit. DETROIT. April 24. Police working on the case of Helmuth Schmidt, who killed himself in jail yesterday afternoon, after confessing that he burned the body of Augusta Steinbach, who came Jiere in answer to a matrimonial ad. today say that two other women disappeared While in Schmidt's employ. Schmidt yesterday said MISS Steinbach, who came here from New York, took her own life on learning' that he was a married man. Schmidt's 17-year-old daughter, who, with her mother, .has been held on a charge of complicity in the Steinbach case, was released this forenoon after making a statement to the prosecutor.
