Show Another UU" Athletic Star Off to Join Aviation Branch HUGH WING. npHE aviation service has called an- other of the many star athletes of the University of Utah. He is Hugh Wing, a basketball and track man. Wing is a new man to university fans, this having been his first season. He was a regular member of the basketball squad and a big point winner in track. Coach Fltspatrick used him as guard in nearly every basketball game played during the season. In track Wing was a sprint man and a broad jumper. In the interclass meet he was tho mainstay of the sophomoro class, of which he was a member. He captured a first in the 220-yard dash and also in the broad jump. He finished third in the 100 and was a member of I he relay team. In the state meet at Logan he distinguished himself by winning the broad jump. Wing was tempted to enlist in the regular reg-ular army at the entrance of the United Unit-ed States into the war. Upon consideration, considera-tion, he decided to wait and try to make better use of his education. He attended attend-ed the university all . of last year and returned in the fall to keep up his already al-ready good record in scholarship. Although Al-though lie was a member of the American Ameri-can Fork athletic teams, he did not participate par-ticipate in any his first year at the "U." He was making his own way through school and did not have the necessary time. This year he was able to try out, and he made good. He enlisted -in the army aviation section last winter and has since been attending school, awaiting the call. Wing leaves this morning for the Berkeley school, and will report there Friday. His home is in American Fork. |
