Swift, the packer, tonight was started, in the custody cus-tody of arcny officers, for Fort Oglethorpe, Ogle-thorpe, (Ja., for internment. The count, who had been denied freedom free-dom from a presidential warrant on habeas corpus proceedings yesterday, today to-day wan ordered held by Federal Judge Carpenter, who granted him an appeal. Judges Baker and Evans In the United States court of appeals refused to allow tho count his liberty on bond pending hearing of the appeal, but ordered him held. Accordingly, the federal marshal had the count taken to Fort Sheridan, 111., where, however, he was held less than two hours. After a prisoner's supper with the others oth-ers confined in Ihe fort guardhouse, the count was removed quietly to the railroad rail-road station, accompanied by two army officers and two armed soldiers. Lieutenant Louis F. Swift, Jr., met the count at the station and said the good -by s for the family. The countess had been advised of her husband's departure de-parture just before the count was taken from the fort. |
