The khaki-clad boys in camps scat-1 scat-1 tercel all over the United States, and i the boys whose olive drab sobers the 5 color scheme of the armies in France, ' must have books. The fighting men 5j iave leisure hours during their training Si and their service, and they will need k thftmauizing, helpful effects of good jauing. ii There are already nearly forty free :i circulating libraries in training camps, and library service is being extended jj through the Y. M. G. A., Y. W. C. A. !! and K. of C. buildings, through the ;i chaplains to smaller camps, posts, forts, :; naval stations and ships, and through !: all these ageucies to the soldiers and ;! sailors overseas. Tho crying need now is for more : books. It is true that several hundred thousand have been given, but two million more are needed. Last August Salt Lake alone supplied sup-plied more than 4000 books. It is most earnestly hoped that the week's drive opening Monday morning and lasting throughout the week will bring two or three -times that number. It does not require much imagination :! to know what the boys like best to read. Good adventure, good fiction, travel or biography, good, live detective de-tective tales. Remember, the purpose of the drive is to furnish books that will be the bullets to drive away the blues. So send good, live ones, no I moth-eaten,, antiquated bullets can be ! utilized. As one . rather Blangy mem-, mem-, ber of the board expressed it, "This :i is a book drive, not a book dump." The books can be left at the public i library, or, if this is not convenient, . the following stores haye offered to ' receive them: Dcseret News book 1 6tore, DtseTct Sunday School union, Callahan's book store, Walker Brothers I Dry Goods company, Keith-O'Brien's, Z. C. M. I., Auerbach 's, the Ked Cross headquarters. |
