Show BRITISH ADVANCE CAPTURING VILLAGES IN DOUAI DIRECTION LONDON, Oct. 12. British forces last night continued their advance north of the Sensee river. Field Marshal Hai announced today. The advance is In the direction o Douai. The villages of Hamel, Brcbieres, less than three miles Ironi Dnuai, and Cutncy, less than two miles from Douai, have been captured. Farther north the British have pushed to the east of" Henin-Lietard, northwest of Douai and they are in the environs of Lnnay. The withdrawal of the Germans across the Sensee canal has been more or less i completed. It is believed Field Marshal , Haig's men will be on the edge of the cannl and in the outskirts of Douai by ; tomorrow morning. South of Laon the , Germans are continuing their retirement j nor tli of the famous Chemin-des-Dames under the pressure ot attacks from the west and nouth, and it is confidently expected that the whole of the famous highway will be entirely evacuated very soon. The Germans are falling back very rapidly in tiie Champagne and this morning morn-ing the French have advanced for a distance dis-tance of from thpee to four miles. After capturing Vouziers on the Aisne river the French have gone some distance dis-tance beyond that town. So swiftly is the line changing that It is difficult to follow the French advance from point to point. |
