Show GERMANS THROWING EVERYTHING IN FIGHT IN CONFUSED WAY VTTTH THE AMERICAN FORCES NORTHWEST OF VERDUN, Oct. 12. (By the Associated Press, noon.) General Gen-eral Pershing's forces continued their attacks at-tacks against the German positions on this front today. German opposition proved even more bitter, if possible, than It was yesterday. The fighting this morning was especially espe-cially violent on the center and on the left center. St. Juvin and Cunel, both of which towns now are in No Man's land, are aflame. The American troops encountered a violent machine-gun fire everywhere along the front. -From prisoners taken there is indica- I tions that the enemy is throwing everything every-thing into the battle in a confused way. The prisoners frequently are unable to tell to what division they belong. In other cases they reveal that divisions, regiments regi-ments and even companies have been dissolved dis-solved and again formed into new units. |
