Hasty, of the Salt Lake marine corps recruiting office, yesterday yes-terday feil victim to the malady and was removed to the post hospital at Fort Douglas. He recently accompanied another an-other marine sergeant to California with a prisoner, and it is believed he contracted contract-ed the disease while in San Franelfcco. In the absence of Dr. K. G. Oowans, state superintendent of public instruction, instruc-tion, E. J. Norton, assistant superintendent, superinten-dent, last nlKht stated that the state schools would comply with the orders of the state board of health. City Schools to Close. fipeaking on behalf of the hoard of education of Salt Lake, Krnet A. Smith, superintendent of schools, said: "The city Bchools will be closed. In compliance with the orders of the state board of health, until such time as the immediate danger of contagion from Spanish influenza influ-enza is abated.", Mlas Johanna Sprague, city librarian, last evening said that the public libraries of the city would be closed for an indefinite indefi-nite period, pending the Spanish Influenza situation. It is said that similar action would be taken In the entire state, although al-though no direct information of that aort had been given to Miss Sprague. On orders from Dr. Beatty. the ladies of the Immanuel Baptist church, who have been canning fruit for sick soldiers at the Fort Douglas hospital, have suspended sus-pended operations until the epidemic shall have been controlled. No Cases at Logan. Dr. E. G. Peterson, president of .the Utah Agricultural college at Logan, when called up by The Tribune last night relative to the precautions being taken to prevent the spread of influenza, said that a meeting of the mayor, health officers of-ficers and college board with a number of physicians had 'Just been held and that It was reported that not a single case of Influenza was known to exist In Logan. Dr. Peterson added that one case was suspected and was under quarantine and that the authorities of the city and the V A C. would do their utmost to prevent the epidemic from reaching Logan.
