Holmes reviewed yesterday before, Judge Harold M. Stephens of the Third' district court her story of how she adopted adopt-ed and raised the late Louise Grace Em-cry Em-cry Bransford. It was the moat dramat ic day so far in the trial of the sutt brought by Mrs. Holmes to recover half of the estate of ?S00,000 lrft to Wallace M. Rransford. Mrs. Holmes admitted that it was by her determination and against the wishes of the girl that Louise Grace was sent to Europe for two years, with instructions instruc-tions to her accompanying tutor that she should not be permitted to study' too hard. Tn answer to questions, Mrs. I Tolmes said that she did not know that Louise Grace received marks above the averago for scholarship whlla attending the Rowland Row-land Hall school for girls in this city in 1903, 1S104 and 1906. The school record was introduced to establish that the girl had been in attendance at the school In j 1903, but the marks were not read into the record. It was brought out during the course of the examination that Mrs. Holmes did not meet her adored daughter upon the latter' s return from Europe, and that they were little together in 1S07. just prior to the marriage of Colonel and Mrs. Holmes. The testimony was to the effect that the girl was sent to school In the east in 1W0 and that she came home for the Christmas of 1901, returning in January Janu-ary to school and going to Europe later in the year 19011. , |
