GUARD NOT EXEMPT Publication of Delinquents Speeds Up Response in ; Returning Questionnaires, j There is a possibility that some no- ; laria! commissions may be revoked by , , the governor, accord J us to James 11. Wolfe, assistant state attorney general and chairman of the Salt bake county lesal advisory board executive committee. commit-tee. Mr. Wolfe says that he has discovered some notaries public have been , rTici rging fr.ox to reistranirt for taking I their depositions and impressing; their sr-als upon the oat ha contained in the ouestion naires issued under 1 he di a ft. The assistant attorney pencral says that v: ink: these notaries are not compelled in the regulations to render free service to i registrant s. it is expected by the cov- I eminent thut they ui!l make no charge. I This expectation is held because the gov- j eminent desires to minimize the expense to registrants and reduce tiieir hardship. Mr. Wolfe says thai in the event that certain notaries public: persist in making charges for trws service he may move toward revocation of their commissions' by the governor. I Attorneys attached to the lecal ad- j visory !)Oard are asked by Mr. Wolfe to . watch the daily papers and the bulletins j which are posted in the house of repre- ; sentatives- for their guidance. He says j that when a new order affecting attor- neys is issued by General E. IT. Crowder, j or from pome other official source, it is iven in the papers and on the bulletins. I Mr. Wolfe adds that the legal advisory board and attached attorneys are serving without compensation, with no available clerks and stenographers, and that it is therefore necessary to resort to publication publica-tion by the newspapers and on the bulletins bul-letins in order to get the required information infor-mation before the attorneys. Guardsmen Draftable. Xiltlonal guardsmen in organizations formed since the guard was taken into the federal service are liable to the draft, according to Captain A. J. Mechin of the Utah adjutant general's office. That is, Captain Mechin says, they are subject tu call by the nation at any time, whether under the draft or otherwise, because they cannot romain in the service ser-vice of the state if the nation needs them. Registrants appeared in hundreds at the capitol yesterday to make returns on their rpiestionnaires and thereby avoid having t heir names published as supposed sup-posed delinquents. Since publication yesterday yes-terday of lists of names submitted to Chief of Police J. Parley White for ap-prehnnsion ap-prehnnsion of the men there has been . more prompt response to questionnaires sent out later. n wine instances t he men whose T, names are published have already joined vJie military or naval service, but this noes not absoh'e them from the require-ment require-ment to make returns on the questionnaire, question-naire, according to draft itoard members. mem-bers.
