Oastlp is chairman, was incrcascil yotovilav by the addition of four now- members, and it now consists con-sists of Mr. Castle, Lester D. Freed, C. B. Hawley, Joseph Decker, Otto As-bridfre, As-bridfre, Herbert .S. Auerbaeh, Joseph Lippman, James ' lnelnetsea aud C. C. Neslen, the latter four being the newly named members. The committee will hold a meeting today to consider extensive plans for a more eonitable distribution uf coal amoiit; the consumers of Salt Lake. One of the first to be ut into effect will be the establishment of a central office or c.learilif house, for coal orders from consumers. .Ml orders, whether, placed by tho consumer with the coal dealers or with the committee, will tie cleared through the central office, which will designate the source from which the .orders will be filled. This, it is believed, be-lieved, will not only discourage duplication dupli-cation of orders, but will' afford bettor and more prompt service to the con-sriiier. con-sriiier. The dealers ha e received this plan as satisfactory to them. The committee also has determined to eliminate coal peddling bv brokers who, in tho past, during coal shortage periods, have inveigled certain dealers into selling sell-ing them a ton or two of coal, and then go about seeking those who arc urgently in need of fuel, soiling it to them at an advance in price, and sometimes forcing forc-ing the price up as high as $10 a ton. The committee has perfected an arrangement ar-rangement with the dealers wherebv those who sell by the sack and in loss than tOD lots, may bo accommodated. In this way much of the suffering will bo averted among that ela's uf population popula-tion which never buys coal in anvthing but sack ipiantitios. ' One of the smaller grocery store proprietors who also handles han-dles coal by the sack, informed the eity fuel advisory committee yesterday that he h-ts demand daily for between four and fivn tons of eoal, doled out bv the sack to people who never purchase fuel In any greater quantity. The committee also urges the use of wood as fuel as far as possible. Kail-road Kail-road ties ate now- available from the Oregon short. Line and tho Denver 4: Kio Hrande at cents per tie. |
