The trout in Utah waters, who have been having a pretty hard time of it since June J 5, wil 1 take a well-eamed vacation until next J uno. No doubt they wiil be glad of doing something besides keeping a weather eye open for fake moths pud grasshoppers. II. 31. Siddoway, state fish and game commissioner, said last night that the season, taken ail around, had been bet-1 ter than that of last year from an ang-i ler's viewpoint. The sport had im-j proved in. various waters, among them Fish lake, Duchesne, Provo. Weber, Og-den Og-den and Logan rivers and numerous creeks and tributaries. The violations or fish laws, said lr. Siddoway, were probably fewer than in bygone years. Nine hundred thousand eggs have been taken from Fish lake ami will be divided for hatching between the Snringville and Murray hatcheries. When hatched the egs will be transformed trans-formed into native, German brown and eastern brook trout and, at the proper time, distributed in the fishing streams. Within two' years it is hoped densely to populate the streams with these trout, as they are deemed superior to the rainbow rain-bow trout. Several hundred thousands of four to six-inch trout will be placed in the streams before the 191S season opens. Mr. Siddoway says the department will post notices next year fixing the opening of the trout' season on the btrawberry for July 15 instead of July 1. lie says the spawning period is so late in those waters that' a later opening open-ing is advisable. |
