CAMP KEARNY, CaL, Nov. 22. Promotions in the Utah artUlery today: To bo sergeants, David John, Ernest W. Chockor, James H. McGee and Victor Nelson; to be corporals, Andrew W. Wight. t Tho 28,1100 boys at Camp Kearny will not be without their turkey and trimmings trim-mings on Thanksgiving day, according to plans being made here today. Tho camp quartermaster department is busy in trying to figure out just how much turkey a husky, hard working soldier can eat, and until the problem is settled set-tled the number ol tlie fowl which will flow into the cantonment for tho big feed cannot be announced. At least oOOO of tho birds are expected. In addition to the turkey, tons of cranberries, celery and material for huge pumpkin pies will find its way to the quartermaster and be distributed among tho organizations. Tho menu will include overy detail which goes to make up a bounteous Thanksgiving spread. Already the mail for the Utah lads has begun to swell noticeably with packages of candy, nuts, cake and other delicacies from home to make the Thanksgiving more cheerful. Postmaster Postmas-ter Hansen announced today that the number of sacks has jumped from twelve to fourteen. Headquarters Busy. Headquarters of the regiment was again a scene of bu6y activity today as the reorganization of the regiment to a motorized unit continued. Several noncommissioned non-commissioned officers were promoted in line with the change, but no more transfers were announced. The work of making the change will continue until un-til December 1, when the organization is expected to be complete and upon this date actual instruction in the newly motorized unit will begin. Members of each regiment today were marched to division headquarters, where they appeared before the efficiency board to answer questions regarding their training in civil life. Specialists in all lines will probably be selected from the Utah ranks to fill vacancies in other organizations of the division. It is the work of this board to select some of the trained men and transfer them to other units in order to equalize and harmonize the various organizations. organiza-tions. As telegraphy and buzzer work will play a large part in the communication work of the artillerymen in the months to come, a competition has begun throughout the regiment and each man will be given a chanco for the championship cham-pionship in speed and accuracy. Captain Cap-tain Ray -T. Ward has been put in charge of the tests and has ennounced the result of the first week's compaction. compa-ction. Results of Competition. Sergeant Basil Mowrey of A battery and Private Carl Shugren of D battery are now tied for first place. Each has the distinction of sending and receiving fifty words a minute. Lieutenant Bvron H. Wynn, Corporal Ai A. Baird "and Private A. L. McDonald of O battery are tied for second place with forty words to their credit. Those who have a record of thirty words a. minute are: Lieutenant R. V. Woods, Hergeant Stanley Dreeher, B battery; Corporal Ned Menzies. B batterv, and Private Carl W. Smith, B battery.
