Show SCHOOL AND ALUMNI SOLIDLY BEHIND 'U' Monday night, instead of Tuesday, will be the occasion of the dinner in honor of the University of Utah football team, which the athletic council and faculty members of the school have decided to give. The change was made in order that more members of the alumni could attend the dinner, since it is desired that as many as possible of the former football foot-ball men may be on hand to arouse pep for -the big Thanksgiving day game. Incidentally, the interest which many of the members of the faculty are taking in the grid prospects augurs well for a better spirit at the institution. Almost without exception the younger members who have been added to the teaching force during the past few years have displayed dis-played considerable interest and enthusiasm enthusi-asm in the student activities of the school, and the number of these instructors instruc-tors has increased materially. The game scheduled to be played between be-tween the freshman and Tooele elevens has been called off by the Tooele boys, who say that they have suffered too many injuries lately to put up a good contest, and the "U" infants are now being be-ing used to a greater extent against the varsity. A fast scrimmage was held yesterday yes-terday afternoon, and another probably will be on the programme today. The freshmen are showing unexpected strength and are a great help to Coach Norgren in rounding his varsity men into shape for the Aggie contest. It was announced yesterday that Clem Crowley, the Denver sport critic and writer, will be the referee at the Thanksgiving Thanks-giving day game. Crowley has been an official this year in contests in which the Aggies and the Crimson have played, and hi 3 work has been satisfactory. Tommy Fitzpatrick was scheduled to be the umpire, um-pire, taut the trip which his East high school Leopards will tako makes this arrangement ar-rangement impossible. Next Wednesday will he alumni day at tho university. Graduates will attend the big football rally at the school and will talk over with the students and faculty the prospects of the Crimson in the game the following day. It Is thought that this sort of meeting will do much to arouse a determined fighting mood on the part of tlie student body and the football players. play-ers. This is the first time In years thai things have appeared so dark before a I'tah-Aggie game, and more t han ever before a spirit is arising at the school that the LoganUes will not be allowed to win. |
