The advent of the truck intf the commercial com-mercial life of the nation lias been signalized sig-nalized by rapid growth. From merely serving the metropolitan districts, truck service first branched out to the Inter-urban Inter-urban territory surrounding centers of population. It has now become Indtapen-eable Indtapen-eable in those areas. Recently a new held has been developed. Where (rood roads obtain, many wholesale houses have found it not only expedient, but economical to serve a territory within a radius of from twenty to thirty miles with trucks. This manner of delivery Is bein taken up on a general scale In the Sail Lake territorv. Many of the local wholesalers have several trucks operating between ! this city and outlying' towns. They find that the service la more rapid and decidedly de-cidedly more satisfactory to the dealers who buy from them. Then. too. the matter mat-ter of damage to perishable freight in transit is practically eliminated. With a truck ot ample capacity and properly loaded, the chances of any part of the load being damaged is reduced to a minimum. Truck transportation is fast becoming a feature in the commercial field that embraces em-braces the small as well ns the larger towns. What is lacking at this time is good highways. Many of the main roads are passably good and quite well kept up, but lateral highways are often found to be in ulmost impassable condition. The recent movement on the part of l'tah citizens to secure pood roads in all sections sec-tions of the state Is fraught with sreat importance to the further expansion of the truck business and truck service. Good roads are Imperative thev are needed for business and not primarily for pleasure riding. |
