Show CLUB WOMEN GIVE ASSUMES OF 1 Pledge Assistance to President Presi-dent in Resolution Sent to Washington. PROGRESS REPORTED i Standing Committees Tell of Flattering Growth of State Organizations. ! In kcoping with th spirit of the time, I patriotism marked the meeting of th? board of directors, chairmen of stand-I stand-I isg committees aad presidents of c!ub6, comprising the Utah Federation of Women Wo-men 's Clubs, at the Commercial club 'i yesterday afternoon. A resolution was passed pledging the ii members to stand by the nation and the president in the present crisis, and : the secretary was instructed to tele- graph the message to Washington. The , resolution follows: i We, the women of the Utah Fed eration of Women's Clubs compris- ) ing 'MHXI women, hereby pledge our- '' selves to stand fey our nation in its present crisis, to uphold the hands of President Wilson and to give i our services in whatcvor -way we may be useful to serve our coun- ' try- ; It was decided in a meeting of the board of directors, following tho general meeting yesterday afternoon, to hold the next meeting of tho federation in October in Salt Lake. i Progress Is Reported. i A meeting of the board was called at 9:30 at the Commercial club yesterday 1 morning, with the president of tho ! state .federation, Mrs. Edward Biehsel of Ogden, presiding. A conference of presidents of the federated clubs of the J state and the standing committees of the federation in connection with the I board of directors was held in the af-: af-: ternoon, with another board mooting following. ilrs. E. 0. Leatherwood I presided at tho general meeting. ; Reports from tho standing commit tees gave recommendations for club work and showed flattering progress in ; club work in the state. In tho report of the civic committee, ; given by Mrs. John Mnlick of Salt j Lake, it was urged that all members of the federation become affiliated with ( lied Cross work. It was further sug- gested that a dav in April or May bo I set apart by chilis to devote to some 1 sort of civic work. Another recommen- dntion was that in view of the scarcity of food products agricultural pursuits Iaud the cultivation of all available soil bo encouraged by tho women's clubs of the state. I Attention was called to the necessity of cleanup and fly campaigns, the cen-j cen-j miring of motion pictures, the better-i better-i ing of social conditions and the beautifying beauti-fying of unsightly spots. j Committees Make Reports. 1 Reports were given from other com- j mittees as follows: Art, Mrs. E. Two new clubs were admitted into the federation: The Literary league of Kanab and the Ladies' Literary club ; of Sunnyside. Tho eastern district federation fed-eration was also admitted. i Mrs. Anna Young was indorsed as ! probation officer.
