United States" Is Subject of Explorer's Ex-plorer's Lecture. "Air Control for the United States" is the subject of an address to be delivered de-livered tonight at the Hotel "Utah by Rear Admiral Robert. E. Peary, U. S. N., before the Bonneville club at its regular dinner. The subject of the admiral, dealing as it does with the use of the air by armed forces, is of particular interest just now in the light of the German-American German-American situation, and members of the club are looking forward to the appearance, appear-ance, of Admiral Peary before tho club tonight with groat interest. Admiral Peary will arrive in the city at S o'clock this morning and is to be shown about the city during the day. Today is the eighth anniversary of the date on which the admiral, then a civil engineer in the United States navy, discovered the north pole and nailed tho "Stars and Stripes" to it, as his message sent from Indian Harbor under date of September 6, 1909, announced an-nounced to the world. After his return from the polar exploration ex-ploration trip congress passed a bill authorizing au-thorizing the president, io promote Captain Cap-tain Peary by placing him on the retired re-tired list of the corps of civil engineers of the navy with the rank of rear admiral ad-miral and extending to him the thanks of congress for his work in attaining the north pole. |
