Show SALE OF LANDS IS TO BE INVESTIGATED FOCATELLO, Idaho, Sept. 7. In connection con-nection with charges to the effect that State Land Commissioner I. A. Smoot conducted recent land sales in the upper Snake River valley in such a hurried manner as to prevent some of those present from having an opportunity to bid. Attorney General T. A. Waiters will make a personal investigation of the situation during the coming week. The attorney general will go to Lava Hot Springs on business for the land board and from there he wll! proceed to Te'.on, Jefferson, Fremont, Madison and Bingham counties In order to satisfy himself him-self in regard to the charges which have been made that the land commissioner commis-sioner purposely failed to give all those who desired to bid an opportunity to do so. He expressed the opinion that there was no just ground for advance criticism from the mere fact that some of the lands were sold at their actual appraised value, as it is the belief of the members mem-bers of the board that the state will make more money by disposing of its lands In eastern Idaho at their appraised valuation than by retaining possession of them. |
