Show EMMELINE B. WELLS HONORED BY FRIENDS Seventy-fifth Anniversary of Her Baptism Bap-tism Into Mormon Faith Is Commemorated. The auditorium in tbe Bishop's building was filled to capacity yesterday yester-day afternoon by the friends oif Mrs. Kmrneline B. Wells, in commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of her baptism into the MormoD faith. The hall was beautifully decorated "with flowers, palms and the national colors. Ileber J. Grant ' told what a great inspiration Mrs. Wells had been to all who knew her and related incidents that occurred when the young people used to assemble at the old family home on State street. Mrs. Elizabeth S. Wilcox read one of Mrs. Wells's poems. A violin selection was given by Willard Weihe, accompanied bv ,). J. McCIellan.. "The Last Rose of Summer" Sum-mer" was 6ung by Mrs. Nellie Druce Pugsley. Solos were rendered by Horace Ensign and Mrs. LiKzie Thomas Edward. Mrs. Wells yesterday morning received re-ceived a telegram from President and Mrs. Joseph F. Smith at Santa Monica, offering their best wishes. Mayor Mont Ferry sent his birthday greetings, as follows: "According to the calendar, von are 22- years of age, and I am sure that' your friends are very glad that you are now upon the threshold of womanhood. The twenty-two birthdavs have been milestones in a life of "great good to this community. May that life be extended ex-tended for many yea"rs to come." Messages also were received from the east signed by Mrs. Carrie Chapman Cart and the Rev. Anna Howard Shaw. |
