Show elusion that because they are oc ,Si vuytcu mi any long uai mey are through with physical exercise and must go on to the end of their days without It Nothing could be further from the tacts or more opposite to a common sense viewpoint As an example take the farmer who Is growing apple trees He care- fully watches t,hem and develops them while they are young and If he lg a wise farmer he gives them Just as much attention when they mature If he doesn t they soon go to waste and his orchard becomes a failure Your body Is like a fine young tree It shoots up vard and outward with Vim and vigor And If It Is taken care of after It has reached maturity It continues to be a tower of Btrength to a good old age Old people who have neglected their bodies after youth are apt to become pessimistic But take a mid die aged man or woman with Well kept up bodies you II find them Just as cheerful and fun loving as they were years before That is because good health and rood cheer travel hand In hand Let us take the case of a young man who has built up a fine set of lowing muscles He settles down to a desk somewhere and except on his vacation he never touches on oar This Is probably not his fault because It Is his business that keeps him from indulging In his former pastime But what about those long lean powerful biceps and triceps that slim proportionate waistline those broad muscular shoulders and brawny forearms that he has de veloped? Must they all go to waste simply because one form of physical exercise is denied him? How foolish to Imagine anything like that Fifteen minutes exercise every s, morning after arising is all that that man needs to preserve his strength for 5 ears and years afterward When once you have built up muscle upon a solid foundation it requires but lit tie effort to keep it at Its full strengtl Everybody has a door to their room and that means that everybody can practice the exercises I am 11 lustratlng to day The poses are somewhat similar to two shown by me In a previous article in which I described door exercises for the arms but in case you missed that article you can benefit by this Stand about a foot and a half from the doorway Place your hands on the side posts Raise yourself on your toes and push forward as hard as you can Extend your head and shoulders through the doorway Then relax and stand flat on your feet It you are already muscular you can stand to do this exercise twenty or thirty times every morning If you are a beginner don t try It more than ten times during the mornings of the first two weeks Then you can Increase the number as you progress being sure as I tell you every week never to tire out jour milSC 83 Another great trouble with the man who lets his physical self slide in after years is his accumulation of fat around the abdomen His slim Tvalst of youth rounds out into a drum like appearance and he puffs and blows whenever he runs for a car or climbs a few stairs Of course It Is much easier to pre vent this condition than to cure It. but ho vever both can be done I am talking chiefly to-day though to the young man and the young girl who have gone into business but ant to retain their freshness and vigor as long as they possibly can To do this and keep their waistlines from enlarging they must exercise regularly , I have given you a simple exercise for both sexes for the arms For the wai't there is nothing better than the stand ng up and bending oer until the tips of the fingers touch the gTound without the knees bending Th s is an old and tried exercise and I have mentioned It several times before but it is well worth repeating Do It ten times morning and night and you will never get too fat Another stood rule to la down Is J to ee o it that ou get a good long i K e e da lake ih s as m ch a ar of o r da ly routine as ea ma jour th ee meals i; T - r -rufuviiirirfin . - rm.ni p Press Your hanas Against the Sides of the Doorway, Raise ourseit on Your Toes and Push Sideways as Hard as You Can Of course always get all the sleep you need The man who becomes so fever sn after mney that he neg lects his health can never be happy with his wealth after he gets It be cause by that time he will have broken down one way or the other I know lots of men who are mak ing nervous wrecks out ot them selves with overwork but they think they are obeying some golden rule of working all the time You may get money that way but y6u will lose your health You must have a certain amount of healthy recreation every day and that doesn t mean spending all your time in stuffy moving picture theatres. That Isn t any knock on the movies because I am a faithful follower ot them but some folks overdo It, like a lot of Uds gorging themselves with cake Here are a number of rules to remember re-member and paste In your hat Take a mile walk every day Always walk with head up and shoulders thrown back.
