Show OCTOBER IS BANNER MONTH FOR RAILWAYS r Increase of More Than $35,000,000 in Revenue Is Shown in interstate CoHimerce Report. WASHINGTON, Jan. 11. October, 1916, was the banner month for railroad operations opera-tions in the history of the country, according ac-cording to figures made public today by the interstate commerce commission. The commission's compilation, based upon returns from all roads in the country coun-try whose annual revenue exceeds $1,-000,000. $1,-000,000. shows that these roads received as revenue from operations $33S,301,7i.6, an Increase of more than $35,00o, ouy over October, 1915. Expenses increased approximately $23,-000,000, $23,-000,000, leaving a net increase, after deducting de-ducting tax accruals and uncollectible revenues, of more than $10,000,000. The chief items of revenue were $245,-4SG.354 $245,-4SG.354 received for freight transportation and $62,ii9P,S12 for passenger transportation, transporta-tion, both of which exceeded the totals of tire same month for the last five years.
