Show SMOOT PREDICTS BIG ViGTORYTOn HUGHES Sees No Chance of the Justice's Jus-tice's Being Defeated for Presidential Nomination. Special to The Tribune. CHICAGO, June 1. Senator Smoot, who arrived from Washington today, is reported by a local Chicago newspaper as saying that he saw no chance of Justice Jus-tice Hughes' being defeated for the presidential pres-idential nomination. He is quoted: "It will lie Hughes or Roosevelt, with the chances favoring Hughes. If I were a betting man, I would lay odds of 20 to 1 that Hughes will be tho nominee, and 10 to 1 that Roosevelt will get, it." To a Salt Lake Tribune reporter Smoot said: ''This convention will end harmoniously. har-moniously. Every candidate before it will have an equal chance with every other candidate. The actuating spirit of the convention will be to nominate a man who, in the judgment of the delegates, dele-gates, will be the most effective candidate candi-date for putting an end to the present vacillating, wabbling, spineless and costly administration." The Utah delegation dele-gation will have headquarters at the Auditorium hotel. j |
