Show IMPOSSIBLE TO OUTBID GERMANS IN THE BALKANS LONDON, Oct. 9, 12:40 p. m. "Clearly it waB quite impossible to outbid the German offer," says the Westminster Gazette in commenting on the alignment of Bulgaria with the central cen-tral powers. "With their habitual cynicism, the Germans were prepared to offer anything, any-thing, and since the greator part of their offerings were at the expense of their enemies, the operation on paper was ridiculously easy. We, on the - contrary, con-trary, could only offer the possessions of our friends." In such circumstances the Gazette deprecates the outburst against the foreign for-eign office, which has been criticised severely se-verely by some newspapers. The Pall Mall Gazette takes the view that personal attacks on Foreign Secretary Sec-retary Grey will prove of assistance to him in rallying public support. |
