Show HUD INSTRUCTIONS FOR MT0URI8TS Salt Lake Automobile Club Organized to Give Out Information Realizing that automobile travel has become one of important and vital in terest to all Salt Lake City an orgam zation waa formed this week to be known as the Salt Lake Antomobile club which has for its main object the plac ng of Salt Lake on the automobile map of the United States by means of l publicity maps logs and a general bu reau of inf ormat on for any and all who wish a knowledge of the roads through this section of the country The formation of th s organ zation is the result of several meet ngs held the past month among the automobile I trades ooncerns of Salt Lake but after much discussion and real zing the ob jects were far b gger than any one class of trade it was decided to make it a city wide affair taking in all classes of trade The organization was formed with temporary d rectors to complete the formation of the club and begin an active campa gn The temporary di rectors are F C Schramm B F Bed man, L J Gilmer Frank Bottenll and i E. Tourssen with F C Schramm as cha rman W D E shel who has con ducted a touring bureau of information for the past five years was named as secretary and placed in charge of the bureau of information Temporary of fices have been located at 342 South State street, where information is now on tap for tourists It is estimated that at least 10 000 cars will pass through Salt Lake this year on their way to the coast These people will be ent rely ignorant of the road cond tions through Utah and will know nothing of the side trips possible from Salt Lake They will be at the n ercy of ways de informants who often desire to send the tour st miles out of his way, or perhaps over bad roads for personal ga n Beakzing that the stranger within our doors is entitled to have correct information it is proposed to have a place centrally located where such information can be given him without expense whatever Th s plan is now being adopted in many of the western cit es such as Den ver Colorado Springs Los Angeles and San Francisco out on account of Salt Lake be ng a natural distributing point for all this travel, a bureau is more needed here than at any other point ew maps and logs will at "once be pr nted for distribution, and these will be f irmshed free to all tourists Tour ists from all parts of the country are requested to wnte giving an outline of where they desire to go, and the best routes to that point will be given them with optional routes where s de trips to spec al points of interest will be fur n shed The new club will also take an active interest in placing the Yellowstone Na t onal park and the Grand canyon be fore the tourists of the country as side trips worth seeing Little is known of the Grand canyon, and generally it is not known that the canvon can be reached from Salt Lake City by a di rect automobile route The splendid s de trips n Utah such as Bear lake Fish lake the Strawberry country, are also unknown outside of the state These po nts of nterest will all be brought before the touring public |
