Show 'arrested in butte; told to Leave town Special to The Tribune. BUTTE, Mont., Aug. 25. M. G. Sales, colored, former manager of the Dunbax club in Salt Lake, and W. J. Johnson, also colored, a former Salt Bake waiter, were arrested today and tried on a charge of robbing a wealthy Burte coal dealer at the Anaconda race track. Chief of Police Murphy testified that the two negroes are associates of four white men, who are members of a gang of pickpockets pick-pockets attracted by the races. While the gang has succeeded in picking the pockets of scores of ra.ee followers, the climax was reached a few days ago when they succeeded suc-ceeded in relieving a Butte man of a wallet containing $1000, while the victim was watching the races. Johnson and Sales denied being members mem-bers of the gang of pickpockets. They declared that they came here from Salt Lake City for the purpose of attending the races. Both men admitted having won heavily on the races, but snid they lost their money again. Judge Booher gave each of the men two hours to leave for Salt Lake, explaining that if they returned to Butte each would have to spend ninety days in the county jail. |
