Show CARGO RATES SOAR AS RESULT OF WAR SEATTLE, Wash.. Aug. 25. An advance ad-vance of from 2o to 100 per cent In rates on grain and flour to ports In the Orient was announced today by the Pacific Coast-Oriental tariff bureau, representing all transpacific lines operating out of North Pacific ports. The new rates, which are effective immediately, are $5 a ton on wheat and flour to all ports In the Orient except Shanghai, for which the rate is $S-50 a ton. The old rates were 52.50 a ton to Japanese port4. $3.50 to Hongkong and $4 to Manila and Shanghai. Shang-hai. It Is expected that an advance of 25 per cent In the rates on other cora-niodities cora-niodities will be announced soon. The Japanese liner Shidzuoka Maru sailed from Seattle today for Yokohama and Hongkong with thirty cabin pas sengers and 200 Asiatics in the Eteerage, BO of whom were Japanese. The Shid-zuoka Shid-zuoka Mam's cargo included 12,000 tons of fi'ur and 400o tons of wheat. |
