Show GNHIE KDUP IH CROWD Fully One Thousand Persons Per-sons Attend the Opening Sessions. One thousand persons attended the afternoon meetings of the Granite district dis-trict roundup at tho Oranito High school yesterday. This was the first day of the roundup, and, considering tho blizzard bliz-zard that raged all morning, the attendance attend-ance is considered by the people in charge to point to grpat interest in such movements bv the residents of the district. An enthusiastic spirit characterized char-acterized all meetings. Dr. K. D. Ball of the Utah Agricultural Agricultu-ral college spoke in the afternoon on tho subject " .Foundations of Education." Educa-tion." Music was furnished by a chorus from the Roosevelt school, ancl also al-so a chorus from the High school. Two readings were given Jby Miss Lucile Rogers. J. W. McHenry of Murry responded to the words of welcome from Principal A. iS. Bennion, and voiced the sentiment that the high schools of the various sections owe it to the districts to aid in their industrial upbuilding. A. J. Hagen gave an interesting illustrated il-lustrated lecture on "Clean Town Contests. Con-tests. M The women's meetings were addressed ad-dressed by Madam Root on "Domestic Art," and Mrs. Osborne Widtsoe on "Making the Best of the Home." The men 's meetings were addressed by Dr. W. K. Carroll of the II. A. C. on the subject of "Balanced Farming and the Dairy Industry." Practical demonstrations by the students stu-dents were a feature of the meetings, and filled the rooms of the school. Today is governor 's day. Governor William Spry will be the "guest of the day. It is certain that a very large attendance at-tendance of the residents of the Granite district will be present to greet the governor. Professor J. II. Paul will speak on "Birds;" Professor trteiner on "Boys and Girls' Clubs;" Miss "Wheeler on "Cake Making;" Professor Lyman on "Good Roads," and Dr. Ernst on "Diseases "Dis-eases of Animals." A horse show also will be held. |
