Show REWARD OFFERED FOR MURDERER'S ARREST Aurora, 111., Police Fail to Apprehend Slayer of Miss Emma Peterson. AURORA, 111., Feb. 26. An old woolen glove and a heavy piece of gas pipe were the clews upon which the police po-lice today pinned their greatest hope of solving the mystery of the murder of Miss Emma Peterson, whose body was found lying on a sidewalk in a fashionable fash-ionable 'section of this city last night. These articles were found todav within a half block of the spot where Miss Peterson Pe-terson was struck clown. The young woman's handbag, open and rifled, was found a block and a half away. Miss Eliza Calkius, who lived near the scene of the murder, told the police she heard Miss Peterson scream, saw a man stoop over her . a moment, then pick up something and run. She gave a description descrip-tion of the man. Before noon today forty-two persons, twenty-five of them negroes, had been picked up for investigation. The police continued to hold John Mason, an old man, but said they had about reached the conclusion that be knew nothing of the crime. A score of drug users were rounded up and jailed in the course of the day. A trail followed by bloodhounds from the scene of the murder finally was lost. The ?itv council offered tonight a reward re-ward of $1000 for apprehension of the person who last night beat to death Miss Emma Petersou. Miss Peterson was found within a half block of her home with her skull crushed. Two other murders of women have occurred here within a year. |
