Definite in- strucllons went from the White house to the poHtoffice department today to reinstate re-instate George Burkltt, assistant postmaster post-master at Wlnnetka, 111., regardless of what other charge, ln addition to that of ! criticising the president for his engagement, engage-ment, was pending against him. The instructions sent to the postofflce department yesterday were that Burkltt should he reinstated if no other charges were pending against him. Today the question was taken up again and, bb a result, orders were issued that he be reinstated re-instated unconditionally without further delay. Any other charges against Burkltt Bur-kltt probably will be investigated by post-office post-office Inspectors later. OT 1CAGO, Nov. 1 6. George Burkl tt, who was ordered reinstated as assistant postmaster at Wlnnetka, a suburb, by President Wilson yesterday, returned to his post today. Burkltt was discharged by the "Wlnnetka postmaster for commenting com-menting on the president's betrothal. |
