P., referring to Lord I?6scbe3''s remark re-mark that, "most books in a librae ought lo be burned," told of a lively oxchangc of compliments he onco had wilh a publisher. Sir Gilbert had been pointing out Iha't in many .-ascrt, owing to the inability in-ability of lilcraiy men lo look after themselves, publishers made far more 11101103" out of books than their authors did. The publisher remarked that what Lord Kosebcry should have said was Ihat: "It, was not most books, but most authors that should be burned." "That may be true," retorted Sir Gilbert, "but judging from the publishers' pub-lishers' share of the profitn of the authors' au-thors' labors, most of tho authors were loo green to be burned."
