At a spcelat meeting of the county commissioners yesterday an tuidit of the books of the county school board was ordered, and Certified Public AccountaijL Edmunds of Suit Lako has been engaged to do the work. There have been rumors of Irregularities in the handling of the board's finances for some time, and in order to ascertain what grounds there might be for these rumors the audit has been ordered. The books havo not been turned over to Edmunds ns yet and It is said that an order from tho court will be necessary before they arc forthcoming. Tho present county school board has had the disbursing of 125.000, the proceeds pro-ceeds of the sale of two bond issues, which was used in the erection of tho county high school; and In addition to this a tax levy In excess of $45,000 In the past two years for the support of the school. County Superintendent Marcuscn, who is also president of the county school board, was seen this afternoon, and when asked If the books would bo turned over to Auditor Edmunds jn accordance with the order of tho county commissioners, said that he did not feel justified In calling call-ing a special meeting of the county school board to discuss the turning of the books over to the auditor engaged by tho county coun-ty and that he hnd Informed the commission com-mission that he would bring the matter before the county school board nt tho next regular meeting, which takes place the second Saturday in March. The commissioners, through their attorney, at-torney, will Immediately apply for an order or-der from the rourt to the clerk of the school board to turn over the books In question. Tho resolution passed by the board of county commissioners also provides pro-vides for an audit of the books of even' school district In the county. , |
