Show IT'S OUR COMMUNITY CELEBRATION Few of the communities of any consequence in the nation na-tion stand without an annual celebration. Hinham Canyon, as a nationally famous mining center, for the past two years has celebrated Galena Days, reminiscent of this district in early days. Entertainment and program for Galena days won the sponsoring junior chamber of commerce national recognition. The celebration was rated the outstanding project of the year in United States for cities under 10,000 population. The Readers Digest now is in possession of the scrap book in which plans, records and clippings on Galena Days 1910 were kept, to study it as basis of a possible magazine article. Associated Press has already contacted Galena Day committee members to ascertain celebration plans in 1911. Galena Days was not originally planned as an annual event. The advice of mighty smart men in business, government, govern-ment, industry and finance, that this is the last year for sometime in which most Americans can do exactly as they please, with more thought for their own pleasure than of absolute duty and obligations, caused the committee to decide de-cide on Galena Days this year. That consideration and a poll by junior chamber members of a good-sized section of the community1. Sentiment was largely in favor o'f Galena Days 1941. The days when thought of defense will be uppermost, when all energies will be spent on a national goal, seem to be drawing closer. As site of an essential defense industry, Bingham Canyon Can-yon will fill a role of great national importance the next few years. Let's have the fun of a successful community celebration cele-bration this year, and make it one to be remembered! |
