Show Tentative Program For Galena Days Arranged By Committee A tentative program for Galena Ga-lena Dais on September 19-20 is announced by the celebration's general committee. Robert Jimas, chairman of the Miss Galena contest, announces that Miss Galena Ga-lena and her two aids will be selected se-lected at a dance to be held at the Civic Center, Saturday evening, eve-ning, August 23. The contest will be open to all women 18 years of age or older (married or single). The committee decided to start growing beards on Monday, August 18, and announced that the first kangaroo court will be held on Monday, Aug. 25. Beard growing is the principal source of funds for the many contest prizes. Shave permits will be issued is-sued on payment of one dollar. The following tentative program pro-gram has been arranged: Friday, Sept. 19 Royal salute, 3:30 p.m.; football game, 4 p.m.; dance, beard judging and concessions, Civic Center, 50 cents per man, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday, Sept. 20 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Old Timers registration; 10 a.m., children's races; 11 a.m. soap box derby; 12 noon, old timers ti-mers banquet; 2 p.m., spike driving dri-ving contest; 3 p.m., muck loading load-ing contest; 4 p.m., historical and miniature parade combined; 6 p.m., ladies' costume judging contest; con-test; 7 to 9 p.m., street scenes; 9 p.m., dance. Civic Center. The committee states that a more continuous running of e-vents e-vents will be effected by starting start-ing the celebration on Friday afternoon af-ternoon instead of in the morning. |
