Show OA MINES AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS Announcement of the award of the mining and geology scholarship schol-arship in memory of the late Downey Davidson Muir Jr., former form-er vice president in charge of western operations of the United States Smelting Refining and Mining company to Joe Tibolla, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tibolla of Lark, was received with interest in-terest in this section. Joe graduated in 1940 from Bingham high school and attended attend-ed the University of Utah last year. His father has been mine blacksmith at Lark for more than 10 years. United States Smelting Refining Refin-ing and Mining company scholarships, schol-arships, each for four years of study at the University of Utah, include the Downey Davidson Muir Jr. scholarship; the Walter Hazen Eardley scholarship, bestowed be-stowed this year on Joe G. Uze-lac, Uze-lac, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G-Uzelac G-Uzelac Sr. of Murray; and the Edward Alexander Hamilton scholarship, awarded Reid E. Jensen of Murray, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Neils Jensen of Mid-vale. Mid-vale. Each scholarship carries an annual stipend of $400 for a four-year four-year university course, and the students are given an opportunity opportu-nity to work at one of the company's com-pany's plants during the summer sum-mer vacation. Recipients are selected se-lected by the U. of U. scholarships scholar-ships committee, the choice being be-ing based on scholastic performance perform-ance in high school, aptitude tests given last May at the university, uni-versity, ancL the applicants' personal per-sonal records. |
