"ln-'. sufficient Funds' A vigorous campaign has been launched by wtho Utah Association of Credit -Men with k view of securing a number of new legislative enactments for the protection pro-tection of business interests throughout the state. Tho most important of the proposed measures were diaeusscd at Icriglh and decided upon at yesterday afternoon's regular monthly meeting of the association, held at the Commercial club. According to a. report drawn up by the legislative committee of the organization mid presented yesterday, an effort will be made at the next legislature to se- i cure a law relating to the giving of false statements. The measure to bo presented for adoption will bo similar to laws adopted on the subject In New York. Massachusetts and Xcw .Jersey, and, it is declared, will overcome the objections ob-jections found to the law now on the Utah st suites. To Stop Bad Checks. An effort also -will be made to have I the legislature prohibit the giving of cheeks without sufficient ,moncy In the hank to take care of them. It is argued that if a severe enough penally were provided, the number of checks that now pass through business channels with i'iu label, "Insufficient funds,-' would disappear, disap-pear, making shady deals Impossible and benefiting Ihe credit basis of firms. A new law also is desired relating to Ihe amount due for wages as a preferred claim under an assignment.. The association asso-ciation sclu forth that under the statutes now a laborer has a preferred claim for wages covering twelve months preceding the assignment. Under tlic bank run ley law he has a preferred claim for ware's for only three months before the date of the filing of a petition in bankruptcy. Tho association wants a law, conforming conform-ing with Hie national bankruptcy art. whereby no manager of a business, director di-rector or officer oIC a corporation, or member of a partnership, shall have a preferred, claim for any waves owing him. Other Proposed Measures.
