It Is realized among solons that the leadership botli on the floor of tho two houses and the speakership speaker-ship of the house of representatives are paramount questions. Therefore, Republicans Repub-licans arc not unlikely to divide into camps determined to control If they have the votes to do so. The southeast, the south and the north are already springing booms for their candidates for speaker of the new hoU3o of representatives and several candidates arc already in the field looking ovor the situation with a view of gathering enough votes behind them to make their Influence Influ-ence felt when the members start lo caucus here prior to the opening of the session. Senator Hunt was in Bolso several days ago sounding members of the legislature on Representative Ferguson's chances for either majority leadership or speakership, and declared at tho time to close friends that the member from Bannock county Is the most conservative of conservatives and if elected floor leader or speaker of the house will seo to It that tho conservatives conserva-tives arc properly recognized and at the sama time will endeavor to placo hl3 stamp of approval on tho so-called "fad-Isms. Re-publican. C. F. Koelsch, representative-elect from Ada county, Is prominently mentioned for speaker of the hounc. Ho Is a progressive progres-sive Republican. President pro tern of tho senate is another an-other prize that is sought by many. Among these are George Fields of Latah countv, who succeeds Senator Jerome J Day, Fields Is a progressive Republican. He was elected over Day, Democrat. John Hart, senator from Fremont county, former for-mer leader of the senate during the tenth session, and J. Frank Hunt, senator-elect from Bannock county, as -well as Hector C. Halght. re-elected, and Worth S. Leo, re-elected, are being considered by party leaders. The president of the senate will be Lieutenant Governor-olect Herman Taylor of Bonner county. |
