Mr. McCampbcll arrived In Salt Lake yesterday from Los Angeles and Is making an effort to interest the morchants of the city in the plan by which, he claims, tho railroad problem will bo. solved. Mr. McCampbcll has a roughly-drawn map of his Idea, which presents the line of a direct mil road from New York to the Pacific coast via Salt Lake. The plan Is to pass directly across the country, coun-try, building necessary tunnels and bridges. Tho road will run from New-York New-York through Salt Lake to San Francisco and will have lines running to the cities of Baltimore and Savannah In the cast and Seattle and Los Angeles in tho west. Mr. McCampbcll claims that travel can bo made at one mile a minute and the passenger rates will be reduced to one cent a mllu. Mr. McCampbel! will address tho P.o-tary P.o-tary club at Its regular luncheon today at Uio Hotel Utah. Ho will remain in Salt Lako and Utnh for a week to viow farming.
