The mother superior nnd five sisters were In oharRc of tho little ones from the Kearns-St. Ann's orphanage, numbering eifjhtj-oiip. Th president and four at-endants at-endants cared for seventy children from tho Orphans Homo and Day Nursery. An olahorato luncheon was served the children at noon and another at 5 o'clock in the evening beforo they were put aboard tho cars for Salt Lake. All tho meals, cakes and pies were prepared by the ladles of tho Klks lodgo. At the Ia3t meal the children Vore giveri an orange and banana each, all tho lemonade they could drink and all tho Jcc cream they could assimilate, with a sack of peanut and a box of candy apiece. It was unanimously voted ono of the most successful outings that Salt Lako lodge has experienced of Its Purple Pur-ple dny treats to tho orphans. Parley Christensen wan chairman of tho Purple dny committee. James B. Lewis was in chnrge of the commissary, ably assisted by Mrs. C. If. Reed, who was at the head of the ladles' committee commit-tee for the day. John H. Cook was captain cap-tain and W. IT. Stenacker was manager of tho team that carried off the baseball honors of the day by defeating the Elks nlno from Ogdcn. The score at sunset was 13 to 12. The distinct feature of tho game was not the number of pitchers pitch-ers used in the game, but the number of umpires, as nlno woro required beforo the game was over. The Ogden Elks came down at 7 o clock In th evening with a special train of three coaches and a band of twenty pieces. They gave a band concert during dur-ing the evening, which served as an additional ad-ditional treat to all Elks and their friends remaining. After 7 o'clock, dancing danc-ing was tho feature until tho return home. |
